Well the fast food season for our family is coming up on us like a whirlwind. Spring in our family is spent at the ball diamond and the soccer field. Thank goodness Allison is a good sport and can handle being carted around and pushed in her stroller! Sean and I looked at our calendar and the months of April and May we will be at the fields every single day except an occasional Friday and Sundays.
Congrats to Jessica! She tried out and made Little League Majors again this year. She wasn't really nervous this year, she was more excited. She has really gotten serious about softball and worked hard to get ready and wanted to do a good job. She was noticed by all the coaches, as she tried out for a specific position this year and crushed the ball during the batting try-out. Over the winter she took pitching lessons because she (and dad) really wanted to focus on a position as she gets closer to Jr. Hi and High School. Sean wasn't crazy about pitching, he thought she would be better suited for something else, but she really wanted to try and so we had her take private lessons. A good friend of ours coaches at Hudsonville and does lessons on the side, she worked with Jess for quite a few months but Jess wasn't mastering the skills. One night she was so frustrated she said she didn't want to play ball at all. We knew that wasn't really the case, she just wasn't going to be a pitcher. She has a super strong arm and played the outfield last year, but wanted to come into the infield. She decided she wanted to try catching. Of course Sean and I loved this because it is what we both did, (Grandpa White too). The first time she actually tried catching was at the try out and she did AWESOME! She has such a strong and acurate arm, she is a very smart player, important at the position. So, she is going to catch this year which means she will see ALOT of playing time. She is really excited! She got all her gear last week-end, and we are having her practice her crouch when she is watching t.v. This is tough for her, but she'll handle it. They start practices next week already (don't we still have snow?) Softball is like a religion here in Georgetown Township and the competiveness if fierce. It gets a little crazy but we love it!
Katie is getting very excited for soccer season to start. The girl could run around on the field all day if she could. Now that she is more focused she has really excelled. She is so fun to watch. They won't start practice until the week before their first game. AYSO isn't nearly as competitive Little League. We may begin looking into travel soccer or year round soccer for her soon. She really enjoys it and it does run out some of that excess energy Katie always seems to have.
I have our game schedules for both soccer and softball and will post them on the blog so everybody has them. All softball games are at the Georgetown Little League complex on Baldwin and 28th and all of the soccer games are at the Port Sheldon AYSO complex on Port Sheldon between 28th and 36th.

Congratulations Jess! I must say that you looked pretty fierce in all that catcher gear last Sunday! I don't think I would steal home.
Hopefully Justin and I can make both some softball and soccer games this year. I think Justin would especially get a kick out of soccer.
